Self-Lubricating Bushings

Self-lubricating bushings (lubrication free bushings) are made up of one of four basic compositions:

  • Sintered Bronze

Composite Self-Lubricating Bushings

Self-lubricating bushings are made up of one of two basic compositions:

  • PTFE-Based Metal-Polymer Materials
  • Thermoplastic-Based Metal-Polymer Materials

Lubrication free bushings are used in applications where extreme agitation of parts and the force of friction to wear on parts. These self-lubricating bushings are able to withstand high temperatures and have high load-bearing tolerances.

 

Bronze Backed, Bronze With PTFE Series - Metric

 These Bushings are made of bronze backed with bronze powder PTFE/Pb, are dry bushings, and have the following layers:

  1. PTFE/Pb mixture 0.01~0.03mm, provides an excellent initial transfer film, which effectively coats the mating surface of the bushing assembly, forming an oxide type solid lubricant film.
  2. Sintered bronze powder 0.20-0.35mm, provides max. thermal conductivity away from the bushing surface, also serves as a reservoir for the PTFE-lead mixture.
  3. Bronze backing, gives exceptionally high load carrying capacity, excellent heat dissipation. Have very good corrosion resistance.

Steel Bronze With PTFE/Fibre Series - Metric

 These Bushings are made of Steel bronze powder with PTFE/fiber, are dry bushings, and have the following layers:

  1. PTFE polymer fibers mixture 0.01~0.03mm are lead-free providing an excellent initial transfer film, which effectively coats the mating surface of the bushing assembly, forming an oxide type solid lubricant film.
  2. Sintered bronze powder 0.20-0.35mm, providing maximum thermal conductivity away from the bushing surface, also serves as a reservoir for the PTFE mixture.
  3. Steel backing, provides high load carrying capacity, excellent heat dissipation.
  4. Copper/Tin plating 0.002mm, provides good corrosion resistance

Steel Shell With POM Plastic Liner - Inch And Metric

 These Bushings very similar to DX® brand bushings in structure and are often substituted for DX bushings providing better value. Bushings are made of steel bronze powder with POM and have the following layers:

  1. POM 0.30~0.50mm, has high wear resistance and low friction even only minute quantities of lubricant are supplied, this bushing surface carries a pattern of circular indents which should be filled with grease on assembly of the bushing.
  2. Sintered bronze powder 0.20-0.35mm, provides max. thermal conductivity away from the bushing surface, also serves as a reservoir for the resin mixture.
  3. Low-carbon steel, gives exceptionally high load carrying capacity, excellent heat dissipation.
  4. Copper plating 0.002mm providing good corrosion resistance.

BLOCK TYPE BUSHINGS

 

Excellent solutions for submerged applications, these GRAPHALLOY block bushings are used primarily in the textile finishing industry in dye & bleach ranges, wash boxes and dye jigs to replace cast iron, plastic or stainless steel bushings.

SPLIT DOUBLE FLANGE BUSHINGS

 

Able to survive harsh environments, these split double flanged bushings are commonly used in screw or spiral conveyor or feeders for moving a large variety of bulk materials. They are also used for mixing, in agitators or batch mixers. GRAPHALLOY never requires lubrication so the conveyed product is not contaminated and does not collect in the bearing

Permaglide® plain bearings are bearings for very small radial or axial design envelopes. These products are available as bushes, flanged bushes, thrust washers and strips and in two groups of materials. The bushes are available not only in metric sizes but also in inch sizes.

Bushes, washers and strips are supplied in the maintenance-free Permaglide® P1 or the low-maintenance P2. Flanged bushes are made from the maintenance-free Permaglide® P1.

Embodies the product characteristic of a permanently, low-wear gliding. By applying a plastic material onto a metallic base alloy, a lowfriction matrix that unites favourable tribological properties with the load carrying properties and thermal conductivity of metals is obtained. The use of solid lubricants in the plastic matrix makes it possible to use Permaglide® bearings in applications without oil- and grease lubrication.

 

Depending upon customer requirements and specific applications, a number of maintenance-free and lowmaintenance materials are available with identical microstructure. A porous bronze sinter structure applied to a steel or bronze back and is impregnated with the respective plastic mix. The solid lubricant produces a film between the sliding surfaces. It attributes to low-noise operation at constant speeds and low coefficients of friction throughout the entire service life of the component. This is achieved by means of a mixture of PTFE (Poly Tetra Fluoro Ethylene) with wear-retardant and thermally conductive additives.

 

It is not possible to find the desired solution for plain bearing applications with products made of maintenance-free materials for all duties and applications. For such duties and applications, low-maintenance materials are available. In this case, the sliding surface
taking up the wear load is formulated from a PVDF (Polyvinylidene Fluoride) matrix.

 

To reduce the coefficient of friction and improve thermal conductivity, special additives are mixed into the matrix. In addition, the surface of the sliding layer may optionally be equipped with lube bore relieves to accommodate grease or oil.

Materials
Carbon/graphite grades selected should be compatible both with the fluids being handled and the operating parameters. The typical materials used are from our Groups A, C, E, and F grades. AMES is a world recognized manufacturer of self-lubricating sintered bearings by designing according to OEM drawings, especifically designed for a given equipment.

Most of AMES Solsona plant production corresponds to this OEM range, a plant specialised in manufacturing bearings. This plant is equipped with a R&D laboratory specialized in bearings, able to provide customized solutions to their customers, in terms of material choice, oil, shapes, tolerances, and assembly method.

MATERIALS

AMES manufactures according to all sintered material standards in the market.
Materials offered by AMES are:

  • Bronze: This material has very low friction coefficient, typically around 0.02 at the usual working PVs. Bronce 90/10 is the most commonly used in the market.
    AMES has developed Ames-A4® bronze, which has lower friction coefficient than bronze 90/10, i.e., 0.02.
  • Bronze Ames-E47®. This bronze with special alloying has high corrosion resistance against impure fuels. Its use is for fuel pumps.
  • Iron: This is the lowest cost material, but its friction coefficient is much higher than that of bronze, approximately 0.08. Typical compositions are plain Fe, Fe-C, Fe-Cu, and Fe-Cu-C.
  • Iron-Based composite materials: Materials IBC-S® and IBC-H®, developed by AMES, have lower friction coefficient than any other iron in the market, approximately 0.04-0.06, at an equivalent cost. Fe-Bronze mixes have similar friction coefficient, but at a higher cost. IBC-Plus® is a material specially developed to provide a low friction coefficient in linear movements.
  • Ames-LFC®: It is an iron-based material with double layer. Its behaviour at start-stop is better than bronze, although the performance at rated conditions is the same. Applications where the friction coefficient or the noise level are critical, are ideal for this material. Its price is between bronze and iron.
  • Aluminium Ames-U4®: It is suited to resist environment corrosion in applications where bronze and iron present corrosion. This material presents a friction behaviour value in-between bronze and iron, with a lower price than bronze designed version.

Several types of solid lubricants can be added to all these materials, in order to improve the performance under specific conditions.

OILS

The choice of the impregnating oil is critical for the bearing functionality.

Self-Lubricating Sintered Bearing  

A self-lubricating sintered bearing is a metallic component with high porosity (20-25% in volume), impregnated in a lubricant oil. The oil contained in the porosity provides a constant lubrication between bearing and shaft, so the system does not need any additional external lubricant. Self-lubrication allows this type of sliding bearing to work under hydrodynamic conditions, resulting in a very low friction coefficient.

Sintered Bronze cylindrical bushings are all self-lubricating and maintenance-free. The sintered bronze bushings consist of a porous bronze matrix impregnated with lubricant. The permissible sliding velocity for sintered bronze bushings is very high, which makes the bushings suitable for rotating applications. These Sintered Bronze bushings are most suitable for applications with rotating movements and where the self-lubricating performance requirements are high.

Wrapped bronze bearings are ideal for applications where there are high levels of contamination. Their running surface is provided with diamond-shaped lubrication pockets or a hole pattern. The lubrication pockets must be filled with grease when the bearing is installed. The wrapped bronze bearings are produced according to the ISO 3547.

The AST090 Series Bushings are wrapped of a cold formable homogenous bronze (CuSn8), which will obtain exceptional material properties. The standard sizes are fitted with diamond shaped lubrication indents on the bearing surface. These indents serve as lubricant reservoirs to rapidly build up a lubrication film in the startup movement and subsequently reduce the startup friction. The material is suitable for the construction and agriculture industries where high load and slow movement are occurring.

They currently offer a specific range of products which includes a complete assortment of tools for sheet metal and plastic processing and an extensive program dedicated to solutions special. The production includes: standardized guide elements according to DIN/ISO standards, punches and dies standard and customized, BMI200 mechanical tapping machines and SL2005 electronic tapping machines for threading inside the mold and standard and custom mold holder blocks.

Roll Cages

The use of the roller cage is essential if the steering system is subjected to high transverse forces. Intercom roller cage can support loads up to 12 times that of the classic ball cage guide, distributing the driving effort along the contact line of the profile of the roller itself. The support surface of the roller in fact distributes uniformly the load, thus ensuring a greater longevity of the entire system.

Guide Pillars

The guide pillar and guide bush align the fixed and moving halves of a mold in each cycle. The material cases are usually made of medium carbon steel and will have higher hardness.

Self-Lubricating bush with Intercoat

The INTERCOAT process coats the surfaces metallic. Through a pre-treatment mechanical the surface of the material is deeply cleaned. This allows to the fluoropolymer to anchor itself to the substrate, obtaining an extension of the properties anti-wear, anti-friction and anti-corrosion, reducing the risk of detachment. The coefficient of friction is between 0.05 and 0.2.

Intercom guide, sliding friction, Intercoat self-lubricating sliding:

It consists of a steel bush with a sliding surface covered with a special self-lubricating coating with addition of spiral lubrication channels, equipped with greasing system for topping up the grease. The steel bush body ensures proper breaking strength even in the presence of high bending stresses.

Intercom Precision Ball Guide

The accurate finish, the particularly tight tolerance of the balls and a correct preload, allow movement without backlash. The benefits of rolling friction come to their fullest enhanced thanks to the rectification and super-finishing of the rolling surfaces. The high flowability of this guide is very popular with manufacturers of moulds. Intercom ball guides are equipped with cages in bronze, aluminum and synthetic material, e thanks to their high number of spheres and their stability, they have given the best practical results.

The ball guiding mini-series allow getting the maximum precision with a soft sliding. They are used in the field of control instruments and among delicate workings.

• MANGACHOC Spherical Plain Bearings consist of a ring made of high-carbon austenitic and amagnetic steel and a hard metal friction counterpart.

• MANGACHOC Spherical Plain Bearings allow tilting and swivelling movements at rather low sliding speeds and this compensates misalignments and edge loading.

MANGACHOC Slide-Bearings are made of an amagnetic and high-carbon austenitic steel. In connection with a hard-metal friction counterpart, the hardness of the steel surface increases under dynamic load (impact and shock) up to 600 HV. This hardened surface builds up continuously, providing excellent resistance to wear.

MANGACHOC Slide-Bearings are seamless, unbreakable and are suited for the use at high temperatures and high stresses. MANGACHOC Slide-Bearings usually do not need lubrication, without any risk of seizing. 

MANGACHOC Slide-Bearings usually come with a profiled or a plain surface and a special AF coating, which features a very high-pressure absorption capacity. The coating additionally protects against corrosion, effectively preventing the formation of fretting corrosion.
